case 2
person with shortness of breath
clinical picture is clear, he’s having cancer
- it was delivered to pathology lab to perform biopsy
- this is done to be 100% sure it is cancer
- CT will tell us that it is positive
- biopsy will say how positive it is (waht stage?)
on re-examination, misdiagnosis (positive)
- d
- patient, got biopsy negative, which was disproven later with another hospital
- causes:
- the cause of the ethical dilemma is on the analytical phase technician, because the clinical history is very clear that it is a cancer patient. the technician didn’t doubt himself when he got a negative and reported. also, he should’ve taken another slide and repeated the test to further confirm, additionally call the senior.
- clinical history is suggestive of cancer, but biopsy says not” → doctors thencome help confirm
- negligence of technical staff + negligence of doctor concerned of the patient
eaxample:
- person who had cancer, came to pathology, they did everything, nand then had to wait for results
- … she want to texas hospital in afternoon, got the reuslts in america that she’s negative as a canceer patient
- texas to oman is 9 hour differenence
- afternoon next day → she gets a call from the oman hosp asking where she is in texas, they told her that she’s positive. she said that the texas hospital said it’s negative
- she want back to the texas hospital, and told them it’s +, texas hospital asked the other hospital to bring the slides
- she called back to oman hospital
- arrangement was done
- slide was sent (SQUH pathology)
- texas looks at slides → positive
- they look at their slides, it’s negative
- they repeat test → positive
confidence is important,
another case
- someone went to india, dr (our dr yeah) was totally against but went with him instead
- he said that this is the best doctor and he had a special machine etc etc
- dr went because
- he got cancer
- he had to be sympathetic with him
- test came as 1+ positive
- dr took slides and sent it to colleagues in squh → turns out it’s 2+ positive
- did operation → negative → clear
