to review what we discussed in a hurry, and this is an important session, whereby
- there will be questions, not in ICA, but in the final exam
today’s topic, which we had a brief view is about ethics of pre-analytical and post analytical phase in labs
just to review
- pre-analytical:
- where specimens are collected in the ward
- there are ethical errors, where us, technologists have to know
- the people on the ward are also human beings under pressure from theirs seniors, emergencies. as a technologists, know that what you receive isnt 100% perfect?
- pre-analytical where specimen are still arriving. they may send specimen which
- belongs to wrong department
- hematology instead of micro
- urgent specimen in a
- as a technologist, we must be aware of what happens in the 4 disciplines?
requirement of specimen:
- biochemistry:
- a tube with no additives; not suitable (this type of containers is often for microbiology; blood culture for example)
- e.g they send a blood culture to biochem when its supposed to be for microbiology
analytical
- in laboratory, there are ethical problems in it too
- specimen which belongs for TB but it sent to the wrong section? (wrong container i think)
- e.g specimen for blood culture when it is in biochem bottles
post-analytical:
when everything is ready, you are putting for the other end to receive:
- entering the wrong microorganism type
