     1. it’s either THIS or THAT.
  3. platelet
• after processing → the bags are labelled and sent to the other parts of hematology lab

the bag itself is connected to empty bags, this comes important later during the separation process

somes bags is contains a filter to prevent other things from entering other than the target

each bag contains an anti-coagulant to prevent clotting

• packed blood’s anticoagulant improved overtime:

  1. CPD → 21 days
  2. CPDA → 35 days
  3. SAGM (Saline adenine glucose manitol) → 41 days at 4 C (currently used)

• other compartment’s expiration time:

  • FFP or cryoprecipitate → 1 year at [-30, -40] C
    • if thawed → only 24 hours (CANNOT BE RE-FROZEN due to crystallization)
  • platelet → 5 days (WITH AGITATION) at 22 C

FFP contains all factors

Cryoprecipitate contains specific factors:

VIII (8) XIII (13) vWF (von Willebrand factor) Fibrinogen (factor I)
