samples:

1. plain tube (red)
   1. most common
   2. we want the serum for antibodies
2. whole blood (EDTA)
3. CSF

each sample is encoded with a number (episode number)

• this number directs what section the tube will be in

e.g

• if it starts with 247, it’s for immunology

if we receive 2 tubes and:

1. Each tube is for a particular section → send the other to the other section ASAP
2. both tubes are for immunology → the other tube is treated as “extra”
   1. most often we dont need it as the new instruments now work in micro-volumes
