in chemotherapy we said that the idea of chemo therapy is to target the microorganism while sparing the host

• minimal toxicity to host

main challenge:

1. viruses are not cells → they dont have celluar wall structure when can strucutre
2. no cell mebrane that wecan target
3. they dont have a metabolic pathway

they hijack the host’s cell’s mechanism for their own benefit

clinical symptoms appear late as the viruses have already replicated

• despite these challenges, viral therapy is a new and emerging field
  • there is an expanding number of agents used in this case
