microbiology lab is composed of 5 sections:

1. Bacteriology
2. serology
3. molecular microbiology
4. virology (3 and 4 are combined)
5. immunology

safety:

decontaminating disposable waste:

• we use an autoclave without moisture (only heat)
• the instrument is set to raise the temperature to 160 C, then stay at that for 1 hour
• waste is to be disposed of

decontaminating re-usable equipment:

• we use autoclave with moisture
• the instrument is set to raise the temperature to 123 C, then stay at that for 15 minutes only
