there is an issue with the ICA2 REGARDING ONE QUESTION
tldr one question had everyone WRONG
today’s tut
restriction endonucleases, plasmids and vectors
plamsid is double stranded DNA (circular form, not linear, like chromosome of bacteria)
- plasmid and vectors are ver yvery useful in research labs
- they use different vectors, most of the vectors are engineered, designed, not in the nature
- but the idea is derived from nature and bacteria
plasmid
prokaryotic (1 genome; circular dna)
they also have a small circular dna called plasmid
- looks like genomic mitochondria?
the bacteria has no barrier covering the chromosome
- the plasmid is autonomous (can have normal replication, also codes for certain genes)
- based on this area, people doing genetic engineering design alot of vectors depending on the need of the lab
- you can actually build yourself a plasmid, here in the lab
- if you want to remove or take something fromthe plasmid, it’s like a micro-surgery?
