first session

• introduction
  • give a basic idea of what’s going on
  • then we’ll see what’s going on in the lab

there are 2 types of assays

• in vevo → in life
  • doing allergy tests on skin for example,
• in vitro → practical work in lab / test tube

what we’ll do today is in vitro test

we have tests for:

1. innate immunity
2. acquired / specific immunity

there is tissue culture

• cell lines
  • for things that are obligate intracellular
    • these tissue culture require care
    • like mccoy and HeLa cell lines
